Frequently Asked Questions

Most people are confused regarding eye practitioners and are not sure about optometrists and ophthalmologist. An ophthalmologist is a medical eye doctor and is the only eye care professional that can perform cataract and refractive surgery as well as other types of eye surgery. Ophthalmologists are trained to diagnose and treat diseases of the eye as well as do eye exams for glasses and contact lenses. Most also dispense eye glasses and contact lenses.

Also, most people are not aware that if they have a history of a medical condition such as diabetes, hypertension, thyroid eye disease as well as other medical conditions with eye manifestation or are taking medications known to affect the eyes, their eye exams are covered under their medical insurance even if they do not have vision coverage.
Similarly, if you have any bothersome eye symptoms such as pain, irritation, discharge or dry eye conditions, your visit is covered by your medical and not your vision insurance.
