Welcome to Oakland Eye Clinic
Serving Rochester, Troy and Sterling Heights LASIK Patients
LASIK is a fully customized laser eye surgery created to address poor to bad vision. LASIK will identify your specific needs and offer tailored results. After measuring the curvature of the cornea and creating a blueprint of the eye a thin flap is created on the retina through which a computer-guided laser works hundreds of times faster than the human hand to make corrections. Patients who choose LASIK often obtain results sufficient enough to permanently stop wearing glasses or contact lenses. Changes will be apparent immediately but the full results will come into focus after the eyes heal completely over the course of several days.
Complete Eye Exams
The American Optometric Association recommends that adults undergo complete eye and vision exams at least once every 2 years. It is recommended that children have an eye and vision exam every 1-2 years, but they should also have appointments to monitor the development of vision and screen for genetic problems, infections and diseases at 6 months, 3 years, and once before entering 1st grade. These examinations are essential to preventive health care and should not be ignored. Oakland Eye Clinic offers full eye exams for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of eye diseases. We offer exams Monday through Friday starting at 9am. Contact our offices to make an appointment or for more information.
Cataracts will affect more than half of all US citizens before age 80. Cataracts cloud the lens of the eye and lead to loss of vision. Many cataracts are related to aging, but even patients in their early teens and twenties occasionally develop cataracts. While it is not clear exactly which factors lead to cataracts many researches suspect environmental and health factors including the degradation of the lens, smoking and diet to play a large roll. Cataracts have been linked to glaucoma, trauma to the eye, radiation and genetics. Oakland Eye Clinic offers surgery to address cataracts. We offer extracapsular surgery as well as phaco(emulsification) surgery to restore sight to patients who have cataracts that are progressed beyond the point where less evasive treatments would suffice.
Diabetic Eye Exams
People with diabetes face a specific group of eye problems as part of the many complications of the disease. Problems like diabetic retinopathy involving damage to blood vessels in the retina, in which the vessels can begin to leak fluid into the eye; cataracts; and glaucoma can lead to severe vision loss and even blindness.
Patients with diabetes and diabetic symptoms may be at risk for problems like diabetic retinopathy and should seek a regular eye exam at least once a year.
A yearly comprehensive dilated eye exam can help monitor symptoms and scatter laser treatments may be recommended to shrink blood vessels causing obstructed vision. Oakland Eye Clinic is trained and equipped to offer the specialized services that diabetic patients require, including dilated eye exams, visual acuity tests, tonometric measurements, scatter laser treatments and vitrectomy procedures.
Glaucoma Evaluation and Treatment
Glaucoma is actually a group of diseases that damage the optical nerve and lead to vision loss and blindness. The condition occurs when the pressure of the fluid in the eye increases beyond what is normal. Glaucoma can develop in people of any age, but African Americans over age 40 and Mexican Americans over age 60 may be more at risk and these groups often experience the disease to a greater degree and experience more complications. Conditions like high-blood pressure can increase the risk of glaucoma symptoms. Oakland Eye Clinic screens patients for glaucoma and offers glaucoma treatments and management options. Treatments are generally most effective when the disease is detected early. Our clinic offers medicine administered through eye drops or by pills can be an effective treatment for preventing the further development of glaucoma (by as much as half).
Dry eye is a condition in which the eyes do not produce adequate tears or when the composition of the tears has insufficient levels of moisture. Dry eyes can be both painful and bothersome and may limit the time patients are able to read, watch TV or use a computer. A sufficient supply of tears is necessary to eye health and maintained vision. Dry eyes can be a symptom of other problems such as thyroid conditions, diseases of the glands, and allergies. At times dry eyes may also be caused by other medications. Oakland Eye Clinic can diagnose and treat dry eyes through a number of tested methods, depending on the type of dry eye and the specific causes. Our clinic can prescribe the only available anti-inflammatory drug for dry eye, provides lacrimal plugs, and can inform patients on other methods of self-treatment including special eye drops.
